The history of the Italian club Calcio Catania dates back to 1929, when they managed to play in the top Italian league. Here, their best finish was eighth position, which they achieved several times, most recently in the 2012/2013 season. However, after the following season, the team was relegated to Italy's third league, Serie C, due to a corruption scandal where they were supposed to buy games for keeps.
More about Calcio CataniaThis club is nicknamed I Bianconeri (the white and black), I Friulani (after the Italian region where they operate) and Le Zebrette (the little zebras). It is easy to guess that their club colours are white and black, and the reference to zebras can then be linked to the vertical stripes on the club jerseys. They play their home games at the Stadio Friuli, which is however currently called the Dacia Arena for sponsorship reasons. Its capacity is 25 144 seats.
