Crystal Palace FC

Their nickname is The Eagles or The Glaziers. The club colours were originally claret and blue, the jersey has gone through many variations and since 1973 has taken inspiration from the colours of the famous big club Barcelona by adopting red and blue vertical stripes as its colours. The club's home stadium is Selhust Park, which has a capacity of 26,125 seats.

The south London club has a strong rivalry with Brighton & Hove Albion FC, known as the A23 derby or M23 derby. If you were wondering about the name, it is derived from the A23 and M23 motorways that connect Sussex to South London. There is also, of course, the local rivalry with the neighbouring clubs in south London, which are Millwall and Charlton Athletic.

Club formation and historical milestones

The club was founded in 1905 and is the successor to the original club with the same name, but which ceased to exist in 1876. It was named after a prominent London building, known as the Crystal Palace. They also played their first matches at the FA Cup Final stadium in the Palace grounds. However, after the outbreak of World War I, the club was forced to leave the Palace in 1915. Since then, they have played at Herne Hill Velodrome and the Nest Football Stadium. In 1924 they then moved to their current venue, Selhust Park.

As for the club's historic achievements, they date back to the 1990/91 season when they won the Full Members Cup. Of regional successes, it can then be mentioned that it is also a three-time winner of the London Challenge Cup, in the 1912/13, 1913/14 and 1920/21 seasons. All of these regional successes were under manager Edmund Goodman, who was also the club's longest serving manager. His engagements ran from 1907 to 1925.

Recent successes

The club began its most recent stint in the Premier League in the 2013/14 season. It has yet to win in the top flight, even looking at its deeper history. It has also been to the FA Cup final twice, most recently in the 2015/16 season.
