Liverpool’s young footballers recorded an impressive win in Premier League 2 over the weekend, defeating city rivals Everton 4–1 at their academy ground. For the under-21 team, it was a well-deserved reward for an attacking display and high intensity.
The standout player of the match was striker Keyrol Figueroa, who scored a hat-trick and confirmed his excellent recent form. The nineteen-year-old United States under-20 international opened the scoring in the fifth minute, continuing his momentum from a dramatic 5–4 victory against Frankfurt in the Youth League. Although Everton quickly equalized, Liverpool regained the lead after an opponent’s red card thanks to a header from Calvin Ramsay.
Figueroa added two more goals before and after halftime, becoming the key figure of the game. His first goal came after an excellent run by Kaide Gordon, who broke through the defense and passed precisely to his teammate in front of an open goal.
Even though he missed a penalty he had earned himself, he remained one of the most active players on the pitch. After the match he expressed appreciation for his coach’s trust and emphasized a team-oriented approach, considering personal goals as a bonus compared to collective success.
The young forward also mentioned that he draws inspiration from former Liverpool stars Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez. Among other strikers, he admires Karim Benzema and Didier Drogba while making good use of advice from academy coaches.
Under coach Rob Page’s guidance, Figueroa is developing both technically and mentally. The coach focuses on discipline, energy and precision in finishing—qualities that the young American embodies fully. After this performance it is evident that Liverpool possesses another major talent within its youth system with a promising future ahead.
