Newcastle United plans to open talks over a new contract with defender Tino Livramento as sporting director Ross Wilson continues his review of first team player agreements to ensure the stability of key squad members.
The 22-year-old defender is currently under contract until June 2028, so the club faces no immediate pressure. However, his increasing importance in Eddie Howe’s team and interest from major European clubs, including Manchester City, have prompted early action from the management.
Top European teams had already shown interest in Livramento during the summer and continue to monitor his situation. Newcastle aims to prevent a possible departure by offering him long-term security.
Despite a knee injury that should keep him sidelined until December, Livramento has become a reliable member of the starting lineup and is considered one of the most promising defenders in the Premier League.
His development fits into the club’s broader strategy to secure key players for an extended period. Following Sandro Tonali’s contract extension until 2029 with an option for 2030, the management wants to continue strengthening squad stability.
The goal is to avoid situations like that of Alexander Isak, when delayed negotiations created tension around salary matters. The club therefore focuses on timely extensions for young players with high potential.
