Tottenham Fans Relieved as Pape Matar Sarr Avoids Serious Injury Ahead of North London Derby

17.11.2025

Tottenham Hotspur supporters were alarmed over the weekend when reports emerged that midfielder Pape Matar Sarr had been forced to leave in the second half of Senegal’s friendly match against Brazil due to an injury. After a heavy collision, he left the field accompanied by medical staff, which immediately raised concerns about a potential long-term absence. With Spurs already missing several key players, including Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Yves Bissouma and Mohammed Kudus, the mood among fans turned gloomy.

The good news is that Sarr appears to be fine. Senegal’s coach Pape Thiaw stated that it was only a minor knock and that the player had been substituted as a precaution. It is reportedly nothing serious and Sarr is expected to return to full training soon.

Less positive news came from the opposing camp. Brazilian defender Gabriel, who was also forced to leave the match due to a groin issue, is awaiting further medical tests and his return to the pitch remains uncertain. Brazil’s coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed regret over the situation and wished his player a quick recovery.

According to BBC reports, Gabriel will also miss Brazil’s upcoming friendly against Tunisia, which puts his participation in the upcoming North London derby against Arsenal at risk. Arsenal also have several injured players, but their list of absentees remains shorter than Tottenham’s.

The North London derby is scheduled for this Sunday with kickoff at 16:30 Central European Time. Spurs fans can at least hope that Sarr will be fully fit by then and ready to help the team in one of the most important matches of the season.
