The traditional Liverpool Legends match at Anfield during the first international break of the new year will also take place in 2026. The Reds will face Borussia Dortmund on March 28, and the event will have a special atmosphere due to Jürgen Klopp’s return to the coaching bench.
The club confirmed the participation of five additional former players. Dirk Kuyt, Martin Škrtel, and Vladimír Šmicer will represent the men’s team, while Natasha Dowie and Louise Schillgard will play for the women’s side. All participants will take part in support of the LFC Foundation charity.
This group joins previously announced stars such as Steven Gerrard, Sami Hyypiä, and Pepe Reina. Alongside Klopp on the bench will be Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush, and John Aldridge. It is expected that Klopp will also spend part of the match with Dortmund due to his history with the club.
Vladimír Šmicer scored one of the goals in Liverpool’s legendary 2005 Champions League final against AC Milan. Kuyt and Škrtel were among the team’s key players at the end of the first decade of the new millennium. Natasha Dowie remains Liverpool Women’s all-time top scorer and formed a successful partnership with Schillgard during their title-winning campaigns in 2013 and 2014.
