The nickname of this English team is The Boro. The club colours are red and white and these are found both in the club crest and on the home jerseys, where the sleeves and shorts are red and there are subtle vertical red and white stripes on the chest and back. They are at home at the Broadhall Way stadium, which has a capacity for 7,800 people. The club was founded in the town of Stevenage in the metropolitan county of Hertfordshire. This was in 1976, under the name Stevenage Borough FC, and it was only in 2010 that the club acquired its current name.

The club was founded in 1889 in the south-west London borough of Merton. For a long time it played in the lower competitions, but after professionalisation it rose to the highest rungs of English football in 1985 and also managed to win the English Cup, in 1888. They beat then big club Liverpool 1-0.
