The Portuguese team CS Marítimo was founded in Funchal, Madeira in 1910. It is one of Portugal's leading teams, but due to the dominance of Lisbon and Porto, it is not as well known outside its country. Over 10,000 spectators can watch their matches at the Estádio do Marítimo. Several Portuguese players have worn their jersey and have gone on to play for some of the world's biggest clubs.
