The Hamburger SV football team has already celebrated a century of existence, having been founded in 1919. The Hamburg club played in the first league throughout its existence until 2018, when they were relegated to the second highest competition. Until their relegation, they were the only team to have played in the first league continuously since their foundation. The home stadium is the Arena AufSchalke, currently known as the Ventils-Arena for sponsorship reasons. It is a modern arena opened in 2001 and has a capacity of 62,271 seats for league matches.
