FIFA World Cup

The World Cup is undoubtedly the biggest event in the world of football. The event, which bears the original official name FIFA World Cup, is repeated every four years, just like the Olympic Games. The national team of the organising country is guaranteed to participate in the championship. This is often a great advantage, as the other participants have to go through a demanding qualification process. In the past, the reigning world champion has also been assured of qualification.

There are 32 teams playing in the tournament, and just being there is often a huge achievement. And before 1998, only 24 teams made it to the World Championships, making the event even more prestigious. The expansion included a larger quota for teams from Africa, Asia and North America. But even so, teams from these regions are still waiting for the overall triumph.

For now, football is dominated by teams from Europe and South America, with eight of them having known the feeling of world champions. It is perhaps no great surprise that the most historically successful team is the national football team of Brazil, which has given the world many legendary players over the decades. Behind the Brazilian team in terms of success is Germany, as the best European team ever.
