Airdrieonians FC is a Scottish football team whose history dates back to 1878. But in 2002 came the demise and a successor named Airdrie United Football Club was formed. In 2013, the association was allowed to revert to its original name. This team is more commonly referred to as Airdrie for short.
In modern history, Airdrieonians FC have managed to add trophies to their account. The triumph in the third highest Scottish league came in the 2003/2004 season. They managed to dominate the Challenge Cup a few years later in the 2008/2009 season. They are currently playing at the Excelsior Stadium, which has a capacity of easily over 10,000 fans.
