CD Lugo, short for Club Deportivo Lugo, is a Spanish football team based in Lugo, in the autonomous community of Galicia. Founded on June 16, 1953, they traditionally play in a red and white-striped kit. The team's home ground is the Estadio Anxo Carro, which has a capacity of approximately 7,200 seats.
CD Lugo has spent much of its history fluctuating between the lower tiers of the Spanish league system, predominantly in the Segunda División B. However, in recent times, they have established themselves more consistently in the Segunda División, which is the second tier of Spanish football. Despite their underdog status, CD Lugo is known for their resilient performances and efforts to punch above their weight against more prominent teams.
The club aims to nurture talent through its youth academy and has a reputation for promoting young players into the first team. CD Lugo is also known for its passionate local support and is an integral part of the community, with fans deeply connected to the team's fortunes on the pitch. Though not one of the leading lights in Spanish football, CD Lugo remains a proud representation of its city and continues to strive for success within the challenging landscape of Spanish soccer.
