The nickname of this English football club is The U's. The club's traditional colours are blue and white. Blue is the predominant colour on the home jerseys, while white is more prevalent on the away jerseys. Alternatively, they also play in black. They are at home at the Colchester Community Stadium with a capacity of 10,105. The club's foundation dates back to 1937 and is based in the town of Colchester in the metropolitan county of Essex. It was built on the foundations of the original Colchester Town club.

The team's achievements include the FA Trophy, which it won domestically in the 1991/92 season. Also of note were the English Cup quarter-final in the 1970/71 season and the League Cup quarter-final in the 1974/75 season. As of the 2016/17 season, this team plays in League Two, which is the 4th and lowest level of professional football in England. This club's best finish in domestic league competition is from 2006, when they finished second in League One, the 3rd highest domestic competition.
