Dundee FC

They are called The Dees or The Dee or The Dark Blues. They've only won the Scottish top flight once in the distant past, in 1962. However, they currently play in the lower league Scottish Championship, where they were relegated in the 2018/19 season. Their home stadium is Dens Park, which has a capacity of 11,506. Their main rival is Dundee United, who have a stadium only 300 yards away and also currently play in the lower league. The team colours are dark blue and white.

Milestones and club achievements

The club was founded in 1893 by the merger of two local Dundee clubs, namely East End and Our Boys. The intention, of course, was to get into the Scottish Football League. They succeeded and had their first league game on 12 August 1893 against Rangers. The match ended in a 3-3 draw. The first few years in the league were difficult for the team. Their highest finish was fifth in two consecutive seasons, 1895/96 and 1896/97. A year later they reached the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup.

Improvement came with time. They finished second in the 1902/03 season and from then on they lost only 16 league games in the next 10 seasons. Gradually the results started to come in too. Dundee were league runners-up again in the 1906/07 and 1908/09 seasons, finishing second to Celtic on both occasions. In the 1908/09 season they missed out on victory by just one point.

Since the Second World War, the club had alternated between the lower leagues, eventually winning 5 titles. But as far as the Scottish top flight is concerned, the club's first real victory came in 1962, as mentioned in the introduction. This golden era of the club is associated with manager Bob Shankly, who took up the post in 1959. In addition, Dundee:

• 3 Scottish League Cups

Rise and fall back down the competition

In 2014, the club returned to the current top tier of the Scottish Premiership for the last time, but as mentioned in the introduction, they were relegated again in the 2018/19 season after losing a barrage of games to Hamilton Academical.
