Egypt's national football team probably can't be called anything other than the Pharaohs. They play their home games at Cairo International Stadium and represent their country at international events, which include not only the World Cup but also the African Cup of Nations. It is here that Egypt has celebrated the most success, winning a total of 7 times in 1957, 1959, 1986, 1998, 2006, 2008 and 2010. They then finished second in 1962 and relatively recently, in 2017. Then there were bronze medals in 1963, 1970 and 1974.
However, in the highly competitive tournament that is the World Championships, there have only been three participations so far, the first being in 1934. That was also when the Egyptians achieved their greatest success to date in this World Cup, when they were knocked out in the first round by the Hungarian national team. The second time they qualified for the World Cup was in 1990 and the last time even relatively recently, in 2018, but on both occasions they failed to advance out of the group.
