The Lithuanian football club FK Ekranas was founded in 1964 and has been one of the leading teams on the scene since the 1980s. However, even decent sporting success did not prevent the financial difficulties that eventually led to the team's bankruptcy in 2014. Subsequently, a successor team, FK Panevėžys, was founded, which already reached the first league in 2019.
Their eight first league titles in 1985, 1993, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 are a good indication of their success. In addition to that, they have won the Lithuanian Cup four times in 1985, 1998, 2000 and 2010 and the Super Cup twice in 1998 and 2006. FK Ekranas have also made it to Europe, collecting a total of 20 games in the Champions League and 18 games in the Europa League.
