Simply called Gatefe, but their nicknames are El Geta and Azulones (the dark blue ones). Dark blue is also the color of their home jerseys. Outdoors, on the other hand, they use red. Their home stadium is the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, which offers 17,393 seats.
Their rival is Leganés. This is a local rivalry due to the proximity of the two clubs. In particular, they have played many matches against each other in the lower competitions. However, this rivalry began to fade over time as Getafe began to rise in the hierarchy of Spanish professional football, and Leganés, on the other hand, fell. Of course, there is also a rivalry, of a rather friendly nature, with nearby clubs Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid.
The club was founded in 1983 in the city of the same name, Getafe, which can be found on the outskirts of Madrid. It may seem like a relatively late start, but it was already a second start. In fact, the club was originally founded for the first time in 1946. In 1983, however, the club's partners established a new form, and so this year is the official date of the current club's founding. Since 2011, the club has been owned by the Dubai-based Royal Emirates Group of Companies.
Getafe has not yet achieved any significant success at the highest level of football. It has only been a finalist in the Copa del Rey so far, in two consecutive years in 2007 and 2008. In Europe, he then appeared in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup in the 2007/08 season.
While the team has mainly played in lower competitions in the past, its longest run in La Liga so far came starting with the 2004/05 season and ended with the 2015/16 season, when the club was relegated to the second highest competition. During their time in La Liga, he climbed as high as 6th place in the 2009/10 season. For most seasons, however, it was rather in the second part of the top-flight table. Their last season in La Liga was the two seasons after relegation and he has been there again since the 2017/18 season.
