Fans call them Göz Göz and they are a Turkish football club with quite a long history dating back to 1925. They are home to Izmir and were originally formed as a sports club by splitting from Altay SK. A number of sports are played here, but football is the most prominent. The club colours are red and yellow, which are part of the emblem and home jerseys, where they can be found in the form of vertical stripes. Home matches are played at the Gürsel Aksel Stadium, which holds a total of 20,035 spectators.
The club's rich history earned it the title of league champion in 1950, back then still in a competition called the Turkish Football Championship. It also won two Turkish Football Cups, in the 1968/69 and immediately afterwards in the 1969/70 seasons. It's definitely worth mentioning that it was one of the first Turkish clubs to make it big in European cup competitions. The 1968/69 season saw the team participate in the semi-finals of the FA Cup and the following season in the quarter-finals of the Cup Winners' Cup. The club currently operates in Turkey's top competition, the Süper Lig.
