The Spanish football club is called by several nicknames, including Herculanos or Blanquiazules (white and blue). From this it can also be easily deduced that the club colours are white and blue. The latter can of course also be found on the home jerseys, with green replacing blue outside, or there is an alternative pink jersey as a third colour combination. They are at home in the José Rico Pérez Stadium, which holds 29,500 spectators. The club was founded in Alicante, Valencia, in 1922.
The club played a total of 20 seasons in the top division of Spanish football, known as La Liga, with its strongest period there from the mid-1970s until the early 1980s. After that, it has somewhat retreated from the limelight, with its last stints in the top flight dating back to the 1996/97 and 2010/11 seasons. They then had a total of 43 seasons in the Segunda División, the second highest division of Spanish football. Since the 2014/15 season, the club has even played in the third division of Spanish football, the Segunda División B.
