The nickname of the club is Die Alte Dame, meaning The Old Lady. The club colours are blue and white. The club plays at the Olympiastadion, which was originally built in 1936 for the then Summer Olympics. Its capacity is 74 475 people.
The club's lease on the Olympic Stadium expires in 2025 and by then it plans to build a new modern stadium to house its facilities. This should hold 55,000 spectators. The main reason for the new stadium is that Hertha is the only Berlin club that does not have an exclusive football stadium. In addition, the stadium is relatively large, which does not correspond to the average attendance of the club.
Hertha BSC is a Berlin sports club from the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district, which is active in a number of sports other than football. These include beach volleyball, futsal and boxing. It was founded in 1892, then as BFC Hertha 1892. In 1923 it merged with the Berliner Sport-Club (BSC) and the present form of the club's name was created.
The club has won two consecutive top league titles, in 1930 and 1931. It has been a long time since then and has not had any major success in the current Bundesliga. Mention can be made of third place in and 1970 and second place in 1975. The club was also relegated in 1980 and only returned to the Bundesliga in 1997. Since then, however, the club has not had much success and has repeatedly been relegated and returned. The last time they made it through was in the 2013/14 season.
Despite the unconvincing league results in recent history, the club has notched up a notch on European soil, right from the prestigious UEFA Champions League from the 1999/00 season. There, it defeated AC Milan and Chelsea FC.
