Icelandic national football team represents a small island of about 300,000 inhabitants. But they still boast some rather unexpected successes, especially in the modern era. In fact, the team managed to reach the European Championship and even the World Cup. This means they are the smallest nation to qualify for both of these most prestigious events.
They finished their only participation in the 2018 World Cup so far in the group stage, having drawn once and lost twice. They were considerably more successful at the EURU in 2016, back then they fought their way through to the quarter-finals to take the final eighth position.
