The Greek football club is nicknamed Argonauti, referring to Greek mythology, which represents sailors and strong men of valour, and the team's emblem also features a Greek gondola. Alternatively, they are also called the Light Brigade of the North. Incidentally, the club was also founded in the city of Kavala in northern Greece, in 1965. The Anthi Karagianni Stadium with a capacity of 10,500 seats serves as their sanctuary for home matches. The club colours are also the traditional Greek colours, i.e. blue and white. The home jerseys have horizontal stripes, while the away ones are predominantly white, complemented by blue detailing on the shoulders.
The club played in the highest Greek football competition, the Super League, between 1969-1975, 1976-1982, 1994-1995, 1996-2000 and 2009-2011. The last appearance in the top competition was followed by relegation, down to the 4th tier of professional football in Greece. For the 2019/20 season, however, the team has won promotion back up a level.
