The club is also sometimes called Mersin İdmanyurdu, they are nicknamed Kırmızı Şeytanlar (Red Devils), they play in red and blue jerseys, with vertical stripes in these colours and the shorts are white. For the outdoor jerseys, the difference is the red shorts. The alternate jerseys are white with red details and blue shorts. The club is at home at the Mersin Arena, which holds 25,534 spectators. The founding of the club dates back to 1925 when it was established in the Turkish city of Mersin.
The club has a passionate fan base, despite spending most of its time in the second division of Turkish football. It is also the only club in the country to have an all-female fan club, which calls itself Dişi Şeytanlar (Female Devils) and also has the nickname Melek Yüzlü Şeytanlar (Angel-faced Devils). The club's greatest achievement is finishing third in the top Turkish competition in 1944 and also winning one of the Turkish Cups in 1967. It last reached Turkey's top competition, currently known as the Süper Lig, in the 2014/15 season.
