The football club from Azerbaijan is nicknamed by its fans as Flaqman (flagship), Neftçilər (oil workers) or Xalq Komandası (national team). They have black and white as their club colours. Their home jerseys have black and white vertical stripes and then they play outdoors in mostly white, or an alternative red variant. Their stadium is the Bakcell Arena, which holds 11,000 spectators. The ensemble was founded in 1932, in the capital Baku.
This team is one of the most prominent in the country and this is also evident in their success. Back in the top league during the Soviet era, it managed to climb as high as 3rd place, but after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the formation of an independent Azerbaijani league, called Premyer Liqası, it has already won 8 championships, considering the lower competition. The last one is from the 2012/13 season, and currently in the 2018/19 season they finished 2nd in the premier league table. It has also won the Azerbaijan Cup 7 times and the Azerbaijan Super Cup 2 times.
