They are nicknamed Les Phocéens or Les Olympiens and their club colours are blue and white. They play their home games at the Stade Vélodrome, which is now called the Orange Vélodrome for sponsorship reasons. This stadium has a capacity of 65 252 seats.
The club plays one of the most watched derbies in France. It is Le Classique, also known as the Derby de France or the French clásico. It is a match with PSG and has a similar intensity to the Spanish El Clásico between Real Madrid and Barcelona. This classic Spanish derby, in fact, became the model for the French one.
The club was founded in the city of Marseille, in 1899. It has spent most of its history in Ligue 1 and is one of the most successful clubs in terms of trophies won. It has won a total of 10, the same as another successful club AS Saint-Étienne. However, it won its first ever title before Ligue 1 was created, so technically there are nine. However, the club last triumphed in 2010 and has been waiting for another league triumph ever since. The last time it nearly did so was in the 2012/13 season, when it finished second.
The club has also won the French Cup 10 times, most recently in the 1988/89 season. However, it reached the final relatively recently, in the 2015/16 season. It has also won the French Cup, a total of 3 times in 3 consecutive seasons, namely 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12.
At international level, he has won the European Champions Cup (now Champions League), dating back to the 1992/93 edition. He also won the Intertoto Cup in 2005. In the Europa League, he last reached the final in the 2017/18 season.
