Real Betis

The club with the full name Real Betis Balompié has many nicknames. They are Béticos, Verderones, Heliopolitanos, El Glorioso, Lobos (the wolves) or Los Verdiblancos (the green and white). The last nickname makes it easy to guess their club colours. The home jersey is predominantly green with white vertical stripes. They play their home games at the Estadio Benito Villamarín, which has a capacity of 60,720 seats after the last expansion in 2017.

The club's main city rival is Sevilla FC and their mutual matches are called El derby Sevillano. They have met more than 100 times and Sevilla are 45% more successful in their duels. Real Betis' success rate is 31%. They played their first ever match together in 1915, when Betis lost 3:4.

The club was founded by students of the Polytechnic Academy in 1907, two years after its rival Sevilla FC. Both clubs are based in Seville, Andalusia. The club's original name was Sevilla Balompié. The club's history is interwoven with the names of important aristocratic families. This is why Betis is proud of its current nickname, Real, meaning "royal". In 1914, King Alfonso XIII even became the club's patron.

The club's greatest achievements

The first time the club played in Spain's top competition was in the 1932/33 season. In the 1934/35 season it even finished first, becoming league champion for the first time. However, it is also his last title to date.
