Real Sociedad

The nicknames of this club are Erreala or La Real and also Txuri-urdinak (white and blue). The club colours are of course white and blue. The predominantly white jerseys have blue vertical stripes. They play at home in the Anoeta Stadium, which underwent renovations in 2017, whereupon it has a capacity of 26,800 seats. In 2019, the capacity is increased to 42,300 seats.

The club has a main rival in Athletic Bilbao, whose matches against each other are called Basque derby named after the area where both clubs are based. However, you may also come across the names El Viejo Clásico or El Otro Clásico.

Milestones and club achievements

This club was founded in 1909 in the Basque town of San Sebastián. It is one of the founding members of La Liga in 1929. For most of its history, it has also been in the top flight, but has never been relegated lower than the Segunda División, the second highest league competition.

It has won La Liga twice in total, in two consecutive seasons in 1980/81 and 1981/82. They finished second 3 times, in the 1979/80, 1987/88 and 2002/03 seasons. Their results in the top competition are quite variable, sometimes finishing in the top half of the table, sometimes at the tail end. Its last relegation to the Segunda División was in 2006/07, when it finished in 19th place. They then stayed in the second highest competition for three seasons and has been playing La Liga again since the 2010/11 season.

The club also has cup wins to its credit. It has won the Copa del Rey twice, in 1909 and 1987. In addition, it has been in the final of this cup 3 times, most recently in the 2002/03 season. Club also succeeded in another cup competition, the Supercopa de España in 1982.
