Real Valladolid

Among the nicknames of the club you will find Pucela and Pucelanos or Blanquivioletas and Albivioletas (white and purple). Indeed, their jerseys contain a lot of purple and its shades, combined with white in the home version. The club plays at the Estadio José Zorrilla, which offers a capacity of 26,512 spectators.

Interestingly, as of 2018, the majority owner of the club is former Brazilian football star, striker Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima, who is commonly known as Ronaldo. He has also been nicknamed "The Phenomenon", and is widely regarded as one of the best footballers of all time.

Up and down

The club was founded in 1928 in the city of the same name, Valladolid, in central Spain. However, the first time this team played in football's top competition was after the 1947/48 season, when they finished first in the Segunda División. It then lasted for ten seasons in La Liga. However, there followed a long period of underachievement in the second top competition, between the 1964/65 and 1979/80 seasons. On one occasion during this period, in the 1970/71 season, the club even dropped down to the third division.

The 1980s and 1990s were mostly spent in the top flight, with the club constantly oscillating around the middle of the first league table. The 2004/05 season, on the other hand, ushered in a rather more dismal period for the club, which was usually in the Segunda División or, in several editions of La Liga, finishing at the tail end of the first league table and struggling to stay up. The last time the club fought its way into La Liga after a four-year absence was from the 2018/19 season. The club's best finish in La Liga so far is only 4th place, and that was from the 1962/63 season, which it has never managed to surpass.

League and European Cups

On home soil, the club hasn't really excelled in cups either, as it has only managed to reach the Copa del Rey final twice, and that was quite a while ago. On European soil, the biggest international success is probably the quarter-final of the Cup Winners' Cup in the 1989/90 season.
