SD Huesca

The club's nicknames include Oscenses, Azulgranas and Los de la cruz de San Jorge. The club colours are dark blue and red, which is both on the home jerseys and in the emblem. The home jerseys have a wide diagonal dark blue stripe on the chest. They play their home games at Estadio El Alcoraz, which has a capacity of just 7,638 seats, having already expanded in 2018 after the club joined La Liga. Even so, the stadium had to get an exemption because the official minimum for La Liga is 15,000 seats.

Milestones and club achievements

The club was founded in 1960 in the city of the same name, Huesca, in Aragon, Spain. The original club in the city was named Huesca CF and had been in existence since 1910, when football was first played in the city. In 1940, the club changed its name to Unión Deportiva, but ceased operations in 1956 due to financial problems. Thus, in 1960, the current Sociedad Deportiva Huesca was formed.

Although the defunct predecessor of the current club played in the second highest competition in the past, the current club did not play here for the first time until the 2008/09 season. Until then, it had alternated between the third and fourth divisions of Spanish football. Huesca lasted five seasons in the Segunda División, however, when they were in the bottom half of the second league table. In the 2012/13 season they  finished last and was relegated to the third division. However, they managed to return for the 2015/16 season and then finished second overall in 2017/18, securing their first ever promotion to La Liga. Here, however, they finished 19th in their first season. That's a relegation position, so they said goodbye to the top competition very quickly.

Corruption, perhaps?

On 28 May 2019, suspicions were thrown at the club by the police and authorities that it was carrying out illegal activities, including the targeted manipulation of match results. No specific charges have been filed yet, so the whole situation and its further development is unclear and we have to wait for the results of the investigation.
