They are called the Lions of Teranga and represent their country at international football events such as the World Cup and also the Africa Cup of Nations. The national team is part of the Senegalese Football Association, which was admitted to FIFA two years after its foundation, which occurred in 1960. Home national team matches are played at the Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor.
The best African Cup of Nations finish for Senegal has been second place, in the 2002 and 2019 editions. With regard to World Cup participation, Senegal has made two appearances here so far. The first time was in 2002 and immediately it was their biggest success to date when they made it through the group stage and were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Turkey. It was not until 2018 that the representatives of this nice African country won their next qualification.
