The team is called the Hanaks, the Blue Avalanche. The club colours are blue and white. They can be found both in the emblem and on the jersey, which is mostly blue with white details. Their home matches are played at the Andruv Stadium, which has a seating capacity of 12,566 and is also used by the Czech national team for their matches.

The club's well-known alumni and players include many names. They include Radoslav Látal, Karel Rada, David Rozehnal, Tomas Ujfaluši, Radim Kučera, Pavel Hapal, Roman Hubník and Tomas Kalas. The most successful Sigma coach was undoubtedly former national team coach Karel Brückner. He led the club to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup and in the top Czech league, he finished 2nd once and 3rd twice during his 8 seasons with the club.

The beginnings of Olomouc football

Football has been played in the city since the beginning of the 20th century. In addition to SK Olomouc, there were two teams, the German team DFC Olmütz. Olomouc football was mainly supported by local businessman Josef Ander and it was thanks to him that SK Olomouc ASO eventually managed to break through to the top league, where they played in the 1941/42, 1942/44, 1943/44 and 1946/47 seasons.

In 1940 the businessman also had a new stadium built for 20,000 spectators and in the 1939/40 season SK Olomouc ASO won the then Czechoslovak Cup. At the end of the war, however, the stadium was completely destroyed by the retreating German army and the club's demise in 1951.

The current club and its rise among the elite

The current Olomouc club was founded in much more modest circumstances in 1919. Originally called Hejčín Olomouc, it was founded by a 16-year-old boy, later to become chairman, Karel Tatíček. The first match was against the Studentská Jedenáctka team and Hejčín Olomouc lost 1:19.

The club first entered the first league in 1982. The longest stay was between 1985 and 2014. In its history, the club has always played very high, but has no league title. The biggest achievements are the Czech Cup and the Czech Super Cup, both from 2012. In Europe, it has been in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup, as mentioned in the introduction.
