Stade de Reims

They are commonly called Stade Reims or simply just Reims. They are then nicknamed Les rouges et blancs (the red and white). Their colours are therefore red and white, which appear both in their crest and on their jerseys. They play their home matches at the Stade Auguste-Delaune, a multi-purpose stadium with a capacity of 21,029 seats.

Famous 1950s

The historic city of Reims in northeastern France is home to the club and was founded in 1910 by the Société Sportive du Parc Pommery. The club took its current name in 1931. It remained an amateur football club until 1935. It entered the then Division 1 of professional football for the first time in the 1945/46 season.

The club is one of the most successful in the French league, but let's just say that its titles have a historical flavour, just like the city it comes from. It was champion in the top flight in 1949, 1953, 1955, 1958, 1960 and 1962, which shows that the 1950s and early 1960s were the club's best years. It was then that former star Raymond Kopa was on the team. He was French, but of Polish origin. His full surname was Kopaszewski and he had a big hand in the club's six titles. In domestic cups, the club has two more French Cups and one French Football Cup.

In the 1950s, the club also reached the final of the prestigious European Champions Cup, now the UEFA Champions League, twice, but lost both times to Real Madrid. It managed to reach the quarter-finals once more in the early 1960s.

Return to the elite

This fruitful period was followed by a dark period that saw a 33-year absence from the top flight. This was broken in 2011, which allowed the club to make a name for itself again after a long time in Ligue 1. It operated in that league between 2012 and 2015, when it was relegated again. It came back again in the 2018/19 season, with full glory, finishing in a respectable 8th position in the table and beating the current champions PSG 3-1 in the final game of the season.
