Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz

The Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz, or Red Sharks of Veracruz, were a professional football team based in the port city of Veracruz, Mexico. Historically, they were one of the oldest and more traditional clubs in the Mexican league system, known for their distinctive red uniforms and passionate local fan base.

Veracruz had fluctuating fortunes throughout its history, experiencing promotions to the top tier, relegations, and various administrative changes. Despite their struggles with consistency on the pitch, the club had a dedicated following and was an integral part of the city's culture. The team played their home games at the Estadio Luis "Pirata" Fuente, named after the legendary Mexican footballer.

In terms of achievements, Tiburones Rojos won several league titles in the earlier years of Mexican professional football, but in recent times, they found it challenging to compete for silverware against more financially robust clubs. Their most notable successes came in the form of winning the Copa MX on multiple occasions and achieving the Liga MX title in the 1940s and 1950s.

Unfortunately, due to ongoing financial issues and poor performance, the Mexican Football Federation disbanded the club in 2019, and they were disaffiliated from the league. This marked a sad end for a team with such a rich tradition in Mexican football, leaving their supporters to cherish the memories and hope for a future revival of their beloved club.
