UC Sampdoria

They are nicknamed I Blucerchiati, La Samp' or Il Doria. The club colours are white, blue, red and black. They play at home at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, which they share with another Genoa club, Genoa CFC. The stadium has a capacity of 36,600 seats and is also known as Marassi.

Derby de Lanterna play with their stadium co-tenant. The rivalry here is very strong. Most of Sampdoria's supporters are from the city of Genoa and the group of radical fans is called Ultras Tito Cucchiaroni. The group is named after the Argentine left winger who played for Sampdoria. Since it was formed in 1969, this makes it one of the oldest radical supporters groups in Italy. Their manifestations are apolitical, but there is a smaller group, the Rude Boys Sampdoria, which is left-wing.

Milestones and domestic achievements

The club, whose full name is Unione Calcio Sampdoria, was founded in 1946 by the merger of Sampierdarenese and Andrea Doria. As can be seen, the current name is a composite of the names of the original clubs.

The most successful period in the club's history is closely linked to oil tycoon Paolo Matovani, who bought the club and invested heavily in it. This was in 1979, when the club played in the second highest competition, Serie B. In 1982, it bore fruit and the club returned to Serie A. In 1985, it also won the first Italian Cup, which it eventually won a total of 4 times, in 1988, 1989 and 1994. It also has the 1991 Italian Super Cup and won its first. only Serie A title that same year. In the second decade of this century, however, the club mainly occupies the second half of the Premier League table.

European competitions

In European competitions, the club has also won the 1989/90 Cup Winners' Cup. In the previous season, it had already reached the final once. In the 1991/92 season, it also reached the final of the European Champions Cup, the current UEFA Champions League.
