The Italian football team Varese Calcio was founded in 1910. In more than a hundred years, this team has gone through several bankruptcies, which resulted in them quitting professional football for a while and only entering amateur competitions. They play their home games at the Stadio Franco Ossola with a possible capacity of over 8,000 spectators.
In the distant past they tried the first league, but that was in the sixties and seventies and without much success. They did manage to win the second top league three times, but that was in the 1963/1964, 1969/1970 and 1973/1974 seasons.
