Nimes Olympique football team traces its existence back to 1937, when it was founded on the foundations of the local club SC Nimes, which was in financial difficulties. In addition to the French Ligue 1, the team also participated in lower competitions, where it achieved its best table positions. In this respect, the highest ranking is the title from the second league, but they achieved this in 1950.

Interestingly, the whole was founded by English founders and their anthem is played to the tune of "God Save the Queen", which refers to the club's English origins.
