Nimes Olympique football team traces its existence back to 1937, when it was founded on the foundations of the local club SC Nimes, which was in financial difficulties. The traditional French football team was founded in 1913, still under the name USVA (Union Sportive de Valenciennes Anzin) and currently plays in Ligue 2, the second highest French competition.
