The Tuscany club has a tradition dating back to 1920 and has changed its name several times throughout its history. From the original Empoli FBC it gradually became ASF Empoli, Dopolavoro Empolese to today's Empoli FC. The Azzurri, as the team playing its home games at Stadio Carlo Castellani (capacity of more than 16,000 spectators) is also nicknamed, even played in the UEFA Cup in 2007. However, the vast majority of their time was spent in Italy's third highest competition. They have been more successful in recent seasons, but they are still more of a provincial club in the Italian scale, on the border between Serie A and Serie B.
More about Empoli FCThe nicknames of this Italian football club include Aquilotti (eagles), Aquile (eagles) and also Bianconeri (black and white). The club colours are thus naturally black and white, with the home jersey being white with subtle black vertical stripes and black shorts. The away jersey has the colours reversed. They are at home at the Stadio Alberto Picco with a capacity of 10,336 spectators. The club was founded in 1906 by a Swiss businessman, in the town of La Spezia in Liguria, Italy.
