KV Mechelen

KV Mechelen is a Belgian football team founded in 1904. During its more than 100 year history, it has been one of the most successful teams in the Belgian league. They have been champions four times, but the last time they celebrated was in the 1988/1989 season. They also have a second league titles and several cup successes to their name. Their greatest international acclaim came in the 1987/1988 season when they won the European Cup Winners Cup. AFAS Stadium with a capacity of over 16 000 spectators is used for their home matches.

The nicknames of the football club are Leeuwen (Lions) or Wase Wolven (Wolves of Waasland). The club colours are yellow and blue, which is the combination you will also find on the home jerseys. Outdoors, they play in white jerseys, which also feature yellow details on the sleeves and other parts of the jersey. The club colour was previously still red, which referred to the club's original name. Freethiel Stadion is the venue for home matches and has a capacity of 8,190 seats. This Belgian club was founded in 1936, then under the former name of Red Star. The venue is now the city of Beveren.
