Spanish team Sporting de Gijón was founded in 1905. One interesting fact is that their stadium, Estadio El Molinón, is the oldest ever in Spain where professional football is played. Opened in 1908, it can offer a sporting spectacle to more than 29,000 spectators. Although they have played in the first league, they have not been able to win many trophies. Their greatest achievements are a second place finish in the top flight from the 1978/1979 season and a double final appearance in the prestigious Copa del Rey in 1981 and 1982.
More about Sporting de GijónThe club's nicknames are Rojiblancos (Red and White) and Los Leones (The Lions). The club colours are of course red and white, which dominate both the home jersey and the emblem. Their home is the San Mamés stadium, a modern sanctuary built in 2013 that holds 53,289 people. It replaced the original stadium of the same name on the same site.
