The Akrites, or "Borderers", is the name of the team that was formed in the eastern Greek town of Xanthi in 1967. AO Xanthi or Xanthi F.C. plays its home matches at the Xanthi FC Arena with a capacity of 7,244 spectators (on the occasion of its opening in 2005 we could see the legendary Pelé), first looked at the first league in 1989 and several times played in the Europa League or UEFA Cup, where, however, did not go past the first round - in 2002 it was stopped by Lazio, three years later by England's Middlesbrough.
More about AO XanthiGreek football club founded in 1961 by the merger of two smaller teams, Trofonios and Pallevadiaki. Levadiakos F.C. plays in the Levadia Municipal Stadium, built in 1952, which has a capacity of 5,915 spectators, the official team colours are blue and green. The team has been led in the past by Momčilo Vukotić and Giuseppe Sannino, while notable players include Fotis Ioannidis and Vladimir Bajić. The city associated with the club is Livadeia, located about ninety kilometres from Athens.
