The American soccer team New York Red Bulls has been in existence since 1994, but at that time it was still called the New York/New Jersey MetroStars. In 2006, it was sold to a famous energy drink manufacturer, which also meant a name change.
More about New York Red BullsSan Jose Earthquakes, a California soccer team, was founded in 1994, but at the time it was still called the San Jose Clash. The renaming took place in 1999, and it was such a return of the Earthquakes to the city, as a club of that name had already played soccer in San Jose in the 1970s and 1980s.
