New York City Football Club (NYCFC) is a professional soccer team based in New York City that competes in Major League Soccer (MLS), the highest level of soccer in the United States and Canada. The club was founded in 2013 as the league's 20th expansion team and played its inaugural season in 2015.
More about New York CitySan Jose Earthquakes, a California soccer team, was founded in 1994, but at the time it was still called the San Jose Clash. The renaming took place in 1999, and it was such a return of the Earthquakes to the city, as a club of that name had already played soccer in San Jose in the 1970s and 1980s.
