In the intense match-up on November 9, 2022, Sevilla FC faced off against Real Sociedad in a game that will be remembered for its dramatic moments and a flurry of cards. The clash saw an early substitution from Real Sociedad as Carlos Fernández was brought onto the pitch at just the 10-minute mark.

Real Sociedad took the lead in the 20th minute thanks to A. Sørloth's perfectly executed goal, but the real drama kicked off soon after. Sevilla's midfielder Ivan Rakitić found himself in hot water, receiving a yellow card in the 27th minute, which was quickly followed by a red card one minute later, forcing Sevilla to play with 10 men.

The spate of cards continued with Mikel Merino of Real Sociedad picking up a yellow card in the 31st minute. Sevilla's troubles deepened in the 34th minute when Jesús Navas was also shown a yellow card, and surprisingly, Tanguy Nianzou received both a yellow card and then a subsequent red card at the same moment, reducing Sevilla to nine players.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Sevilla faced another blow when Brais Méndez extended Real Sociedad's lead with his goal in the 36th minute. As the first half came to a close, Sevilla managed to pull one back through Rafa Mir's effort in the 44th minute, ending the half with hope for a comeback.

The second half saw a flurry of substitutions from both sides. Real Sociedad made strategic changes, bringing on Mikel Merino and Martín Zubimendi early in the half, while Sevilla responded with their own adjustments by introducing K. Rekik and Isco.

Further changes were made later in the game, with Real Sociedad bringing in David Silva and Álex Sola, while Sevilla replaced Óliver Torres and Rafa Mir in the hopes of refreshing their lineup. Erik Lamela was Sevilla's final substitution in the 89th minute.

As the match neared its conclusion, Jon Pacheco of Real Sociedad received a yellow card in the 90th minute. However, the earlier events had cast a long shadow over the game and despite a spirited performance from the host, Sevilla FC, the match ended in favor of Real Sociedad, who capitalized on Sevilla's misfortune with disciplinary issues.
