This club probably doesn't need much introduction, as it is one of the most successful clubs not only in the Spanish league, but also in the world. The club's main rival is of course none other than Barcelona, the second most successful club in the league and in fact the main serious competitor in modern history as well. The two clubs play a quite extraordinary El Clásico league derby together with a unique flair. For a long time it has also been a battle between the two best players on the planet, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. However, the famous CR7 is no longer active at Real.

The rivalry is also, of course, local for the club with its city neighbour Atlético Madrid. They play El Derbi, or Madrid Derby for short, together and the matches always have prestigious significance.

The club was founded in 1902 in Madrid. It has played La Liga since the very beginning and is one of the three clubs that have never been relegated. The others are, of course, Barcelona and also Athletic Bilbao. The club has carried the nickname Real, meaning "royal", since 1920 after being consecrated by King Alfonso XIII.

During its time in La Liga, this most successful Spanish club has won 33 league titles. It competes mainly with Barcelona. It won its first title in 1932 and its last one in 2017. In addition to its league success, it has also won the Copa del Rey 19 times, most recently in the 2013/14 season. It has also won the Supercopa de España 10 times, most recently in 2017.

Real Madrid is not a local club, but it has a large international reach and a number of successes here as well.
