Tottenham Hotspur FC

Their nickname is The Lillywhites. They are also called Spurs for short. The club colours are white and blue. Fans associated with the club often sing the song "Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur". But there are a number of other songs that are in the fan repertoire. Among them is "Glory Glory Hallelujah", which was first performed in the European Cup at the club's former stadium, White Hart Lane.

The fans have a hard core of hooligans, with many incidents taking place particularly in the 70s and 80s. The club's main rivalry is with Arsenal, with their mutual matches being referred to as the North London derby. It also has a rivalry with Chelsea, of course, and also with West Ham United. These are all London clubs, so the local rivalry is obvious.

The background to the formation of the club and the new facilities

Founded in 1882, the club is from the London Borough of Tottenham. However, its original name was Hotspur FC. This name has its origins in Shakespeare's play Henry VI. Here, the character Henry Percy is called Hotspur, or the Fugitive.

The club is now home to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which has a capacity of 62,062 seats. The previous stadium, the White Hart Lane mentioned in the introduction, was already under capacity. The club abandoned it after the 2016/17 season. It was also demolished in 2017. Tottenham Hotspur had played there since 1899.

Milestones and club achievements

While the early days of the club saw ups and downs, the club had its best period from the 1950s to the 1970s. The club triumphed in the top flight competition twice in total, in 1950/51 and then a decade later in 1960/61. In the case of the second victory, it also has a double, as in the same year the club won the FA Cup, beating Leicester City.

The FA Cup has been won by the club a total of 8 times in its history, the last time being in the 1990/91 season. In terms of cups, it has also triumphed 4 times in the League Cup, the last time being in the 2007/08 season. It has also won the FA Charity Shield 7 times. At European level, he has also won the Cup Winners' Cup and also the UEFA Cup (now the UEFA Europa League) 2 times.
