Serie B

Serie B is the second highest football competition in Italy, played on the Apennine Peninsula since 1929. The main attraction for the participants is the possibility to be promoted to the Italian elite in Serie A. This awaits three teams each year, with two progressing directly. The third advancing team must be 10 points ahead in the table or there is still a play-off for that spot. Conversely, the four worst teams are relegated to Serie C after the season.

The second Italian league has brought one interesting feature to football, which is the green card. Basically, it is the opposite of the black card, which a player or even a coach can get for showing a sense of fair play or some good deed. However, its eventual award does not take place during the game, but only after the match is over. At the end of the season, the most frequently awarded player will receive an award.

The most successful teams in the history of Serie B are Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio and Genoa CFC, who have six titles each. When we look at the success rate in terms of Italian regions, the best teams are from Lombardy, as they already have a total of 20 overall triumphs.
